Sons of the Forest is the second chapter in Endnight Games’ The Forest series, though its connection to the original is either unknown or nonexistent. While it’s entirely possible Sons of the Forest may make its way onto consoles in the future, expect to only be able to face off against a whole new wave of cannibal mutants on PC. It also does not seem to be coming to PS4 or Xbox One. According to Endnight Games in an interview with GamingBolt, there is no plan for a current-gen console release, though they “would love to come to console in the future.” For now, development is “currently focused on delivering the best experience possible to PC players.” Unlike The Forest, Sons of the Forest is also not releasing on an initial early access basis. Unfortunately, Sons of the Forest is currently only slated for a Steam release. So, will the sequel rectify its predecessor’s inability to reach an even bigger audience and launch on the PS5 or Xbox Series X & S? One of the biggest qualms about The Forest was its limited availability, as it officially launched on Steam in April 2018 (after a four-year early access beta) and only landed on the PS4 in November of the same year. Players ate it up so much that Endnight Games is revisiting the concept in Sons of the Forest. What could have been a rehashed adventure in an uninspired environment wound up being a refreshing blend of classic survival horror and meticulous resource management. The breakout horror survival game from Endnight Games came at a time when survival was at the core of so many releases. Endnight Games hasn't confirmed nor denied plans for additional platforms right now, so while there's a chance that it'll come to PlayStation platforms later, you might be waiting a bit longer for that to happen this time since the PC version of Sons of the Forest isn't even the full one. That game is only on the PC platform which was how The Forest started out before it eventually got a PS4 release. So, why wouldn't someone with a PS4 just buy Sons of the Forest instead?
